Liderul mondial Novak Djokovic a debutat cu dreptul la Turneul Campionilor de la Londra. Tenismanul sârb s-a impus în două seturi în faţa argentinianului Diego Schwartzman.Djokovic a câştigat fără probleme, scor 6-2 6-3, în doar o oră şi 18 minute de joc.Adversarul sârbului participă în premieră la turneu , ca urmare a absenţei elveţianului Roger Federer,care a avut două operaţii la genunchi în acest an.În celălalt meci al acestei grupe, rusul Daniil Medvedev l-a învins pe Alexander Zverev într-o reeditare a finalei turneului Masters de la Paris, încheiat acum 10 zile. Medvedev a avut din nou câștig de cauză în fața reprezentantului Germaniei, pe care l-a învins cu scoru 6-3 6-4 la capătul unui meci care a durat o oră și 29 de minute.Daniil Medvedev a obținut astfel prima sa victorie din carieră la Turneul Campionilor, iar în etapa a doua se va confrunta cu liderul mondial, Novak Djokovic.

Organizatorii turneelor de Mare Şlem au optat pentru a oferi premii egale la masculin şi feminin, însă fanii au deplâns situaţia de la Roma, unde premiul Simonei Halep a fost frustrant de aproape ca al lui Djokovic, însă nu egal. ''Parcă zici că dacă au avut aşa mare nevoie de acei 10 euro pentru a se simţi mai bărbaţi, în iad cu ei'', a scris altul. Anul trecut, la Roma, campionul Rafael Nadal a primit un cec de 958.055 euro, aproape dublu faţă de campioana Karolina Pliskova. Impactul financiar al pandemiei de coronavirus a redus premiile totale la masculin la 3,47 milioane euro, iar la feminin la 1,69 milioane euro.
